Annual maintenance

Annual oil burner tune-up & vac

The best way to avoid emergency burner problems is a yearly tune-up before the cold sets in. Our annual tune-up includes:

  • Replace nozzle
  • Filter change
  • Strainer brush, vacuum, and clean
  • Check normal running operations for the new season
  • Inspect unit and wiring
  • Adjust settings for optimum efficiency

Regular tune-ups identify and prevent potential problems in those cold winter months and get you the best efficiency possible. Call (631) 779-2716 to schedule.

Troubleshooting guide

Common oil burner noises and what they mean

The most common warning sign of a burner problem is unfamiliar noise. Rattling, knocking, whistling, squealing, and grinding sounds each point at different issues.

Knocking noise usually means air has gotten into the lines. The fix is “bleeding” the lines. Don’t try this yourself unless you know how. Call us.

Whistling sound often means the filter is blocked or dirty. Filters should be replaced about every three months, not just cleaned.

High-pitched squealing or screeching usually points at the blower motor or belt. A loose belt can be retensioned. A worn or frayed belt needs replacement. Either is safe to leave to a technician.

Grinding noise is a serious sign. Shut the burner down for safety and call a pro. It usually means a motor bearing problem.

Sporadic on/off cycling with odd sounds is usually an air filter or oil supply issue. After checking those, if the problem continues, call a professional.
